About Us
This credit union is a member-owned, democratically operated, not-for-profit organization managed by a volunteer board of directors, with the specified mission of meeting the credit and savings needs of consumers, especially persons of modest means. The purpose of this credit union is to promote thrift among its members by affording them an oportunity to accumulate their savings and to create for them a source of credit for provident or productive purposes.
First Dakota Federal Credit Union is the oldest credit union in South Dakota. It received its federal charter #40 on November 19, 1934. It originally served Northern States Power employees and their families. In August of 2000, Northern States Power became XCEL Energy. The field of membership now includes employees, former employees, and retirees of XCEL Energy, First Dakota, and Girton Adams Ice Co. (added in October 2003). Family members of the mentioned are also eligible for membership. We currently serve 419 members.
As of June 2010 asset size was $4,183,823.02. Loans totaled $3,193,851.94. Financial statements are posted monthly in the credit union lobby. |
